We went on a guided Walking Food Tour our second night in Sorrento, Italy. Paolo, our British/Italian guide, met us in Piazza Tasso and promptly led us into the Syrenuse Bar on the cliff's edge, looking over the Sorrento Harbor. Locals and tourists alike were amassing downtown for the aperitivo hour, an Italian tradition that grows on you quickly.
This is where we began our evening with a yummy aperitivo of Limoncello Spritz and Grandma's pizza bites - Montanara, little deep fried pizza puffs with marinara on top (my new favorite aperitivo snack)!

Then Paolo walked us through the streets of old Sorrento, giving some historical background, including the road upgrading incident, where they dug up a road for repairs, to find a 2,000 year old Greek road. After much deliberation, they opted to cover it back up to preserve it for another day. We stopped in front of a famous little church with a lovely fenced portico. This has been used as a men's club for years, where they gather, play cards, and catch up on all the latest. We asked our men in the group to line up for a pic. They seemed quite proud.

Stopped at Storico8, Via Padre Reginaldo Giuliani, where (due to the tiny size of his eatery (2 small tables outside), Giuseppe met us on the street with trays of focaccia bites. Light and tasty! Mmm Mmm.

On to Caseificio Apreda Francesco, located on via del Mare, Sorrento for a sit down with some wine, where we tasted some of the best Ricotta, Mozzarella (made onsite), & Salami to be found.

Afterwards, we wound our way down to the Marina Grande for paper cones of treats from the sea. Paolo told us stories of how he and his school chums would skip school and run down this winding road to the sea where they would spend hours in the water. As you can see, my new Historian friend Shawn is in Heaven with his paper cup of seafood treats.
